Before you start
Start from the current portfolio state and treat the article as an operating checklist. If a required input is missing, record that gap instead of inventing precision.
Detailed steps
Open Investment Plan setup
Start from the screen named in the step and confirm the portfolio in the top bar before you change anything. If the wrong portfolio is selected, switch portfolios first.
Find maximum illiquid percentage
Use this step to turn loose information into a clear portfolio record. If you are missing an input, note the gap instead of guessing.
Set a limit based on cash needs and existing locked holdings
Set this based on the real constraint behind the record: currency, ownership, liquidity, date, access or review cadence. Do not change a setting only to force a nicer dashboard total.
Save and review private investment and real estate sections
Save only when the record reflects the source. After saving, the change can affect Net Worth, Capital Review, Forecast, exports and shared views.

What it adds
- Prevents planning from overusing inaccessible capital.
- Connects liquidity discipline to recommendation sizing.
What it does not do
- The setting depends on correct liquidity labels in Assets.
- It does not model every lockup or redemption gate.
Common mistakes
What to check
- Include existing private holdings when choosing the cap.
- Lower the cap when upcoming obligations are uncertain.
Entering a clean-looking value without recording where it came from.
Ignoring currency, ownership percentage or valuation date because the total appears reasonable.
Using ordinary notes for private access information.
Assuming Set Maximum Illiquid Allocation produces advice, verification or execution beyond the workflow described here.
After you save
- Return to Net Worth and confirm totals changed as expected.
- Open Capital Review to see whether the record created, resolved or changed any review item.
- Check whether the record should affect Forecast, Investment Plan, exports or share links.
- Revisit this intermediate guide when source evidence changes.
