Review a Data Gap

Open a Capital Review item caused by missing, stale or weak portfolio data.

Current Capitelist screen for Review a Data Gap.

Before you start

Start from the current portfolio state and treat the article as an operating checklist. If a required input is missing, record that gap instead of inventing precision.

You have current source evidence available.
You know whether the value is verified, imported or estimated.

Detailed steps

01

Open Capital Review and select a data-gap item

Start from the screen named in the step and confirm the portfolio in the top bar before you change anything. If the wrong portfolio is selected, switch portfolios first.

02

Read the trigger, affected record and suggested action

03

Open the underlying asset, debt or setting

Start from the screen named in the step and confirm the portfolio in the top bar before you change anything. If the wrong portfolio is selected, switch portfolios first.

04

Fix the source data, mark reviewed or defer with a reason

Use this step to turn loose information into a clear portfolio record. If you are missing an input, note the gap instead of guessing.

The label you and your advisors will recognize.

Current portfolio value.

Use current value, not purchase price, unless cost is the only defensible estimate.

Native currency of the asset or liability.

Do not change currency to force a base-currency display.
Valuation date

When the value was last reviewed.

Missing dates create stale-data risk.
Method/source

Why the value is credible.

Use imported, market, appraisal, manager mark or internal estimate honestly.

Decision rules

What it adds

  • Improves data reliability before you act on dashboards.
  • Creates a repeatable cleanup process.

What it does not do

  • A review item may need external evidence to resolve.
  • Marking reviewed does not change the underlying value.

Common mistakes

What to check

  • Do not close a gap just because it is inconvenient.
  • Add notes when the data remains estimated.

Entering a clean-looking value without recording where it came from.

Ignoring currency, ownership percentage or valuation date because the total appears reasonable.

Using ordinary notes for private access information.

Assuming Review a Data Gap produces advice, verification or execution beyond the workflow described here.
